Downright hot weather arrived in South Dakota recently, leading many to pull out their summer clothing. For some, those clothes are now too snug from a long winter of less activity.
The May 28 episode of "On Call®" will consider weight management and the problems that come from obesity.
Dr. Rick Holm, the "On Call" medical editor, and program producer and host Tami Watson will join guests Dr. Beth Mikkelsen, an internal medicine physician with the Yankton Medical Clinic, and Dr. Bradley Thaemert, a board-certified bariatric surgeon from Avera Health and the Surgical Institute of South Dakota.
"Weight management and obesity are really two things: critical, widespread problems, as well as personal, almost private, topics," said Watson. "Having an internal medicine physician and a surgeon, both with experience working with patients who have weight concerns, will help us sort through the questions almost everyone has."
"On Call" airs Thursdays on South Dakota Public Broadcasting-Television at 7 p.m. Central, 6 p.m. Mountain. "On Call" is a weekly program about health produced by the South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service.
During the live broadcast, viewers can call 1-888-DrOnCall (1-888-376-6225) with their questions about obesity and weight management. Viewers also can e-mail their questions in advance of the broadcast by visiting the "On Call" Web site at http://oncall.sdstate.org/.
The South Dakota State Medical Association and the South Dakota Department of Health both endorse "On Call" and its programming. "On Call" is the only show to receive these endorsements.
The program is made possible by major underwriter support from Avera Health and the South Dakota Foundation for Medical Care. Additional sponsors include Dakotacare, Brookings Health System, the South Dakota American College of Physicians, Swiftel Communications, and the Friends of SDPB.

"On Call" returns after a week off for fund-raising on June 11 with a show about pain of the back and neck. Viewers can learn more about "On Call" at the show's Web site, http://oncall.sdstate.org/.
