Pain in the neck is more than a cliché. Pain that runs through the neck and back can cause discomfort, lead to time lost from work, and greatly reduce a person's comfort in life.
On the June 11 episode of "On Call®," medical editor Dr. Rick Holm, and program producer and host Tami Watson will share the show with two doctors who can help answer questions on back and neck pain.
Dr. Stephen Eckrich, an orthopedic surgeon, and Dr. James Engelbrecht, a rheumatologist, both with the Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center, will take viewers' calls and provide medical information.
"People who deal with back and neck pain have real quality of life concerns," Watson said. "I hope that during this broadcast our guests will help viewers understand their treatment options, especially when surgery becomes a consideration."
"On Call" airs Thursdays on South Dakota Public Broadcasting-Television at 7 p.m. Central, 6 p.m. Mountain. "On Call" is a weekly program about health produced by the South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service.
During the live broadcast, viewers can call 1-888-DrOnCall (1-888-376-6225) with their questions about back and neck pain. Viewers also can e-mail their questions in advance of the broadcast by visiting the "On Call" Web site at http://oncall.sdstate.org/.
